Jacob is Resting

Jacob has always been a kind boy with a gentle heart. In fact, when he was in preschool, his teacher asked to speak with his mom. Like most of us, his mom wondered if he was in trouble. It was quite the opposite. The teacher told a story about a little girl that fell during recess. Jacob was the only kid that stopped and asked if she was OK, all the other kids continued to ride their bikes or scooters without stopping to see how she was doing. But Jacob, helped her up and took her to see the nurse. He was a friend to the friendless and he loved unconditionally.

As he grew, he went through a sports phase, but grew into the love of legos and drawing. He was a vibrant, smart, loving,  funny and beautiful eight-year-old boy.

On December 31 of 2012, just a few minutes before the ball dropped ringing in a new year, Jacob was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, Stage 4 Brain Cancer. Jacob underwent six months of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation. He was in a lot of pain, but somehow managed to smile along the way.

On February 18th, I will eat a scoop or two of #icecreamforbreakfast to remember Jacob along with his family, because #kidsgetcancertoo, #Medulloblastoma

Jacob lost his battle on June 5, 2014, when he was only nine-years-old. His mom says, “The indescribable pain that I was left with is something that I have to live with for the rest of my life. I’m grateful to God for the best nine years of my life and I have faith that one day I will see my son again. It is by God’s grace that I’m still here today and without him I would not have survived.”
